My First Quilt!

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

I think I'll make a quilt, a bed runner would be a good size to try for my first quilt!

Fast forward... From king size bed runner to small accent pillow!

I found this quirky quilt pattern from Amy Ellis called Tipsy Triangle. I purchased the pattern and decided it would look more scrappy if I reduced the blocks to 3" finished blocks.

Looking back, increasing the block size instead of reducing might have been a better option for a new quilter. But I started an assembly line and made over 350 little blocks. I carefully positioned each one into rows, making sure the colors flowed evenly throughout the quilt.

I attempted to quilt the the runner on my domestic machine. I started in the center and completed a small section. I wasn't quite sure about working all the fabric in the harp of my machine. Off to watch more YouTube videos.

To make a long story short, after completing my next quilt project (which was much smaller in size), I was determined to circle back and complete my first attempt. I examined my handy work and decided that my completed quilt top contained a few blocks where my points didn't match up as well as I'd like. Okay, there were more than a few! I did find a section large enough to create an accent pillow. I also found another acceptable 12"x 12" section to make a single mini quilt for my completed project shelf. I talk more about the project shelf in another post! The pillow is still used today and it represents the start of this crazy journey of buying large pieces of fabric, cutting into smaller pieces, and sewing it back together again!
